Ruby Leni opens in Dusseldorf

Not far from Königsallee, Ruby Leni, the latest opening for the Ruby Group, and the second of its hotels in Düsseldorf, has officially opened. The building, which houses 170 rooms, a bar, a café and an outside terrace is located at Jahnstraße 3. In addition to the hotel, the mixed-use property in which Ruby Leni is located also accommodates a theatre.
Tucked away on a tree-lined street dotted with quaint restaurants and bars, a three-minute stroll from the boutiques and cafés of Königsallee, Ruby Leni offers a charming retreat in the heart of Dusseldorf. The Rhine river, the many rustic pubs and bars of Dusseldorf’s legendary old town, as well as the city’s nightlife around Ratinger Straße, are all within walking distance. With Graf-Adolf-Platz U-Bahn station and Berliner Allee tram stop around three minutes away on foot, Leni is just two stops from the city’s main station, from which the airport can be reached in under ten minutes.
For guests who’d like to stay a little longer, Ruby Leni offers RESIDENT Rooms, which are more spacious and are equipped with a bigger wardrobe, a small fridge and a coffee machine. Resident guests also get access to the Residents’ kitchen and lounge. For longer stays, Ruby Leni offers a special extended-stay rate, with significant price discounts for stays of seven nights or more.
Reminiscent of the theatre world in the 50’s
Initially built as a hotel in 1904, the building was transformed into the ‘Düsseldorfer Operettenhaus’ in 1910. In 1951 the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus moved in and quickly made a name for itself as one of the leading theatres in Europe. Leni is named after Helena from Goethe's Faust. Gustav Gründgens' groundbreaking production of the play was premiered at the Schauspielhaus in the 1950s, before it became a film classic. The 'Forum Freies Theater' in the basement still commemorates this part of the building's history. This rich history also influences the hotel’s interior design: diverse furnishings including original antiques and props tell the story of the theatre world in the 50’s. The interior of the rooms and the public areas are based on the style of the early 1950s, while the public areas of the hotel include style elements from the 1960s with a modern touch.
Diverse music programme
All hotels reflect Ruby’s passion for music; guests can rent guitars free of charge to plug into the Marshall amp in their room and the hotel has its very own radio station Ruby Radio. Like the other hotels, Ruby Leni will offer musicians, visual artists and other creative people the chance to present themselves to a wider audience within Ruby's own event series. To founder & CEO Michael Struck and his team, music is a matter very close to the heart: “We love music and we care about supporting talented musicians, whose music stands for itself and has a unique character and identity. Therefore, we put a lot of emphasis on closely working together with the individual artists, offering them a stage where they can let their creativity run free.“ This not only enables very intimate concerts in the hotel bars, but also spontaneous sessions on the rooftop terrace or during breakfast. Aside from the carefully-selected range of Ruby Resident Artists, the event program is also open for guest performers.
A lean form of luxury
Ruby Leni follows Ruby‘s Lean Luxury philosophy: A top location, high-quality room fittings, and genuine design. All of this is offered at an affordable price by rigorously cutting out the superfluous and focusing on the essential. “This works because we accommodate luxury in a relatively condensed space, similar to luxury yachts. We forego unnecessary services. Thanks to proprietary technical innovations, we plan, build and organise ourselves differently from conventional hotels. To be precise, we plan and build in a very modular way and centralise as well as automatise processes behind the scenes wherever possible. This helps us create a luxurious and unique hotel experience at an affordable price,“ Struck explains, with regard to the group’s approach.
The refurbishment of the former office into hotel spaces will be realised by ‘OFB Projektentwicklung,’ with whom Ruby has signed a long-term lease.
